- The project involves the construction and operation of domestic water treatment facilities to comply with the State of California's new drinking water maximum containment level (MCL) for chromium-6. The chromium- MCL of 10 parts per billion (ppb) became effective on July 1, 2014, and applies to each community drinking water system that CVWD serves. Domestic water wells that will receive treatment to meet this MCL are located in Desert Hot Springs, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, La Quinta, Indio and Thermal. The proposed water treatment facilities and related pipelines will be located at existing well sites and additional sites located in Desert Hot Springs and Thermal. All treatment wells and facilities will be located within Riverside County, CA.
