Document Description
State Parks will grant an easement to the US Army Corps of Engineers for a weather station near Gilman Peak at Chino Hills State Park. Carbon Canyon Gilman Rain Gauge has been operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers since the 1950s. This Carbon Canyon Gilman Rain Gauge is also an official National Weather Service station. The data is also transmitted via the GOES (Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite) satellite where it is used by the Corps, National Weather Service, U.S. Geological Survey, Orange County, Riverside County and others for real time flood forecasting. Equipment at the Carbon Canyon Gilman guage includes a rain gauge, data logger, GOES radio, solar panels, battery and antennas.
