Document Description
The proposed project is derived from an awarded Placer County Air Pollution Control District grant that has allowed forested open space common areas to be treated for fuels reduction. The focus on forest/fuels management workw ill be providing an adequate buffer from residential properties and two main roads that act as the main artery for entrance and egress into the community of Northstar. The residential properties that are adjacent to this grant project have been completed or are in the process of having state and district required defensible space work done to meet compliance. The main emphasis of the grant project is to create public safety in the event of a wildfire and is identified as priority number two in the 2015 Northstar Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP). The project consists of contiguous site that is 40 acres in size. The project area is located in the lower portion of the community on the uphill side of Northstar Drive and to the west, below Highlands View Road. this project area has had limited fuels management treatment in the past and now declared by the Northstar Fire Department, (NFD) as a priority due to the dense young white fir (Abies concolor) stands, forests diseases and bark beetle infestations and standing and downed dead trees that are creating a fire hazard in a residential community. The financial contribution for this grant allows for approx. 17 days of a "light entry" with a hand crew and a chipper to begin an initial entry to the project area for fuels management.
