Document Description
Project is limited to building of bridge abutments and anchoring a 45 foot long flat bed bridge spanning the channel of the Shasta River. Mini-excavators will dig trenches 12-feet long and 2 feet deep in order to place concrete blocks, which will serve as the abutments. The trenches will be 14 feet away from the active bank with no disturbance to the active bank or channel itself. No riparian vegetation will be removed. Additional 2-foot tall blocks will be added on top of the buried blocks in order to achieve proper height (either 2 or 4 feet). The blocks are designed to interlock with each other for secure fit and once the flat bed bridge is raised onto the abutments, it will be secured to the anchoring abutments. Large rock rip-rap will be placed adjacent to the blocks to protect them from scour. The rock will extend 12 linear feet along the abutments on the west bank, and 20 linear feet on the east bank to follow a bend in the stream. The bridge is not designed for building department specifications, as its purpose is for the private recreational access to the other half of the property, and not vehicular access.
