Document Description
The Pajaro Watershed is listed on the section 303(d) list of the 1972 Federal Clean Water Act as being impaired water bodies due to high levels of nitrate sediment, pathogens, mercury, and fecal coliform. The goal of this Project is to enhance water quality by improving efficiency of crop irrigation systems and nutrient application through implementation of best management practices (BMPs). Examples of BMPs may include but are not limited to: installation of irrigation system infrastructure, installation of monitoring equipment for irrigation and nutrient management decision making, treatment of irrigation runoff, installation of fertigation and tailwater recharge. The Project includes the following two components; 1) Development or modification of crop specific irrigation and fertilizer management strategies, and 2) Implementation of improved irrigation and nutrient management practices.
