DTSC is considering approval of a Resource conservation Recovery Act Corrective Action Statement of Basis for the USS-POSCO Industries site (UPI) in Pittsburg, California, pursuant to Health & Safety Code, Division 20, Chapter 6.5. The purpose of the corrective action is to address soil, and groundwater contamination associated with Solid Waste Management Unit 6.1, 8 and 35 at UPI. The remedial alternative selected consists of monitored natural attenuation and a Land Use Covenant that restricts the use of the property to industrial use only, prohibits the extraction of groundwater and contains requirements for: annual inspection of all units, annual maintenance of the SWMU 8 cap, implementation of a DTSC-approved Soil Management Plan and Health and Safety Plan whenever work within the units is undertaken that involves soil excavations deeper than six inches below ground surface.
