New Wastewater Treatment Plant

The Project consists of two alternatives and the no project alternative. Both alternatives 1 and 2 involve the construction of a new 3.6 million gallon per day capacity wastewater treatment facility with the capacity to expand in the future. Under alternative 1 this facility will be constructed on China Lake NAWS, adjacent to the existing WWTP. Wastewater from all areas of the City would continue to gravity-flow north to the WWTP, and the existing 20-inch force main would remain in use to pipe effluent south to disposal ponds at a City site, south of San Bernardino Boulevard's intersection with Ridgecrest Blvd. Under Alternative 2, the WWTP would be constructed on the City site. Flows from the northern half of the City would be collected and piped to the NAWS site then pumped southward by a new lift station to the new WWTP. An effluent force main would be constructed to pipe water north to new wastewater disposal ponds at the China Lake NAWS site. Under the No Project Alternative, the outdated and undersized current WWTP would continue to be used.
