Document Description
Replacement of an existing internal combustion engine with microturbine technology to meet mandatory air quality emission standards and also to allow LGVSD to reduce the amount of digester gas flared into the atmosphere by converting it into compressed natural gas (CNG) for vehicle fuel. Included in the project is the installation of a CNG fueling system to augment and eventually replace the existing diesel fueiling system at the plant. The BERS Project provides the greatest benefit to cost ratio for LGVSD rate payers while providing the lowest carbon footprint for LGVSD.
In addition, the BERS project includes the construction of a backup natural gas fueling system at LGVSD's Smith Ranch Pump Station, which would allow LGVSD to beneficially utilize the full extent of the property.
