Document Description
This project will research and develop two new and novel approaches to cost-effective roof deck insulation system specifically for, but not limited to, homes with ducts in the attic. The project has both analytical and experimental components that lead to development of test systems for field evaluation and demonstration in 2017 of advanced thermally-efficient, moisture-resistant and cost-effective attic systems for steep-slop residential roofs. Both approaches are applicable to new and retrofit work and are intended to be made market ready shortly following successful field evaluation, targeting 2017. This project moves two prototype, insulated attic systems from pilot prototypes to straightforward insulated attics, both sealed-insulated, where applying the insulation is applied to the underside of the roof deck, and ventilated, where the insulation is above the roof-deck. Important material and construction aspects of these systems need to be resolved, requiring the research, evaluation and field testing and demonstration proposed herein. These approaches will be applicable across CA and in both new and retrofit situations will directly benefit electricity ratepayers due to energy and greenhouse gas savings.
