Document Description
The purpose of the project is to assess whether existing levees and floodwalls on Alamitos Creek can be certified in accordance with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) standards. A total 24 borings measuring approx. 8 inches in diameter will be drilled approx. 1,000 to 1,200 feet apart along the creek levee to characterize subsurface conditions. Sixteen of the borings will be on existing paved trails and paths on the levee crest, while eight of the borings will be positioned in the floodplain within the levees. Boreholes will be advanced to a depth between 20 and 45 feet below grade. Hollow-stem auger and mud-rotary drilling will be implemented, depending on the subsurface conditions. Cuttings will be carried to the surface and disposed of off-site.
