Document Description
The project consists of improvements to the intersection of the northbound I-5 entrance and exit ramps at La Novia Avenue and Valle Road. The proposed project is intended to accomplish the following primary objectives: 1) address existing and projected traffic operation deficiencies occurring at the intersection; and 2) improve safety for all modes of transportation (vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians) due to existing hazards created by confusing intersection geometry. The existing offset stop controlled intersection currently operates at Level of Service (LOS) F in the PM peak hour, which is deficient according to established City and Caltrans criteria. The proposed project would eliminate the existing offset intersection and replace it with a roundabout intersection that was designed to fit the existing topography and minimize impacts to surrounding uses. The proposed roundabout would have an inscribed circle diameter (ICD) of 150 feet, a landscaped center median, a circulating roadway with a width of 20 feet, and single lane approaches on Valle Road, La Novia Avenue and the I-5 exit and entrance ramps.
