Document Description
The California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) has approved an Interim Remedial Measures Work Plan (IRMWP) submitted by CDM Smith on behalf of Cherry Aerospace. The proposed project consists of a total of 32 wells and an aboveground treatment system to treat extracted groundwater via advanced oxidation processes and air stripper followed by discharge to publicly owned treatment works (POTW) via existing sanitary lines. Off-gas created during the treatment and the extracted soil vapor from the soil vapor extraction system will be treated via vapor-phase granular activated carbon system to contain and adsorb volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and zeolite impregnated with potassium permanganate to oxidize contaminants prior to discharge to atmosphere in accordance with local air quality permit requirements. Upon completion of construction activities, remediation systems operations and maintenance and groundwater monitoring will occur. As a future potential contingency, three injection wells may be installed in upgradient locations northeast of the Main Building and focused Dual Phase Extraction wells could be installed at select locations containing significant COPC mass in the shallow groundwater in order to enhance mass removal at the Solvent Storage Area and Chemical Warehouse.
