Document Description
Storm water runoff from Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) discharges directly to the Pacific Ocean into an Area of Special Biological Significace. The proposed project would include media fiber retrofits above the beach to increase pollutant removal effectiveness and improve urban runoff, storm drain bypass construction, storm water treatment measures to remove pollutants, and runoff controls to reduce the velocity and volume of runoff to prevent erosion. The work would be centered in four areas on the SIO campus: 1) existing media filters located south of tthe Scripps Pier, 2) directional drilling between Deep Sea Drilling and Hubbs Hall; 3) storm water treatment around Hubbs Hall; 4) runoff controls along the La Jolla Shores Lane Trail.
