Document Description
An intense storm on December 12, 2014, which followed a wildfire on May 2, 2013 and an ensuing drought, resulted in major mudslides and debris flows throughout the park. Sycamore Creek flooded the canyon, flowed down entrenched portions of Sycamore Canyon Road and eroded stream banks adjacent to the road in several locations. Emergency repair work included import and placement of soil from landslides on Pacific Coast Highway to fill in entrenched areas and re-grading of the road at stream crossings. Dump truck turn-around areas were created at locations along the road. The resulting road is now two to three times wider than the original road, and the turn-around areas are denuded.
