Document Description
Project consists of the installation of a new standby emergency generator for the Unit's emergency command center (ECC) to replace the existing generator, which does not currently meet the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) standards. The generator will be a liquid propane gas (LPG) fired type generator and will require the following improvements: a 13 foot by 20 foot by six inches deep concrete pad for two 1,000 gallon LPG tanks, 10 bollards to protect the tanks from potential vehicle contact, 375 feet of trenching (18 inches wide by 28 inches deep) to install a new one inch gas line from the LPG tanks to the generator building, two bollards to protect the new gas line at the point of entry to the existing generator building, and a new shutoff valve and pressure and flow regulator at the generator building. A two-foot by 15-feet long section of asphalt will be saw-cut and removed to allow for trenching to the generator building entry point. it will be replaced with eight-inch concrete, and two existing driveways will also be saw-cut and removed to allow for trenching. They will be replaced with eight-inch thick concrete. Additional improvements include the installation of an expanded metal cage as a preventative safety measure over the existing two-inch backflow prevention valves near the easement in front of the ECC building. Trenching will be completed using mostly hand tools. This project will allow the ECC to remain functional during the event of a power outage and will meet or exceed current SCAQMD standards.
