Document Description
FYI Final
Caltrans has prepared a Draft Initial Study with proposed Neg Dec for a proposal habitat restoration project on SR 299 in Shasta County near Crystal Creek Road in the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, National Park Service. The purpose of the project is to fulfill mitigation commitments originating from a transportation project that was constructed in 1991. The project would restore and enhance Howell's alkali grass (Puccinellia howelli) habitat within a complex of alkaline springs adjacent to SR 299, including modification of the existing highway storm water drainage system to prevent the discharge of fresh water directly into the alkaline spring habitat, removal of accumulated sediment from one alkaline spring, and continued monitoring of plantings along Willow Creek.
