Document Description
A biogas upgrader (BGU) that separates methane from non-combustible gases will be sequentially demonstrated in two sites in Southern California. First it will be demonstrated at the MillerCoors brewery in Irwindale, California from biogas from the existing on-site digester. The duration of this demonstration will be about eight weeks. The unit will then be moved to a landfill near Simi Valley, California where it will demonstrate the upgrading of landfill gas. This second demonstration will be for a period of about 4 weeks. At both sites, approx. 100 standard cubic feet per minute will be diverted from existing biogas infrastructure, treated, and returned to the original gas stream to be either flared or used to fuel a combined heat and power system consistent with the current practice of the facility. If flaring occurs, only biogas drawn from a feed permitted for flaring will be returned to the flaring feed after conditioning. There will be no new flaring, nor will additional biogas be diverted to existing permitted flares. The BGU consists of piping, treatment canisters, a blower and a hydrogen sulfide removal module, and is skid mounted. The dimensions of the skid are 12 feet wide by 20 feet long and 6 feet high. The skid will be placed on an existing concrete pad at MillerCoors and on an existing gravel surface at the Waste Management landfill.
