Document Description
The Pio Pico adobe has an active infestation of dry wood termites. This condition has been confirmed by a certified pest control company. Proposed treatment for this condition is to tent the entirety of the historic adobe building and to treat the structure with Vikane gas (Sulfuryl Flouride) for a period of three days and two nights. No physical damage such as drilling or staking will be permitted, and no heavy objects will be allowed on the roof structure. Tent will be secured against unlawful entry. DPR museum curators and staff will document and remove specified museum artifacts (e.g. fabrics, fiber arts and item specific to the Pico ownership) prior to fumigation. All furniture will be covered in plastic sheeting. Artifacts will be returned to the building exhibits following completion of the fumigation.
