Document Description
Construct a shaded fuel break for approx. 1500 feet along Riverside Park Drive and an additional 3300 feet flanking the northern and western most boundaries of Riverside Estates Subdivision. This project is 11 acres and will allow crews to utilize hand tools, weed eaters, chainsaws, and chippers, to reduce hazardous fuels with a combination of treatments. Treatments may include weed whacking, brush removal, chipping, lop and scatter, and the removal of small trees within 50 feet of the road edge and within 100 feet of the property boundaries known as Riverside Estates Subdivision. The project will provide approximately 63 homes in the rural residential community with increased fire protection and provide safe egress and ingress of the frequently used road. Hazardous fuel loading and road side starts will be reduced. The project area is made up of various brush species as well as several tree species which include redwood, Douglas-fir, white fur, alder, and tanoak. Debris should not be higher than eighteen inches. The remaining trees should be spaced at a target of fourteen by fourteen foot spacing. the maximum tree diameter for removal is 8 inches. The remaining trees will be limbed to reduce ladder fuels. These fuel management activities will reduce the volume of flammable vegetation allowing the community safer access in the event of wildfire. Site disturbance will be limited to minor modification and removal of vegetation.
