Document Description
This project will repair surface water drainage along fire roads in Malibu Creek State Park (Crags Road, Bulldog Motorway and Castro Motorway) in order to reduce road surface erosion and Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) in target watersheds identified by the Regional Water Quality Control Board. Road repairs will include infilling of road entrenchments, outsloping of road edge by removing or reducing road edge berms, clearing of existing plugged culvert pipes, and installation of swales and spot side drainage where no berms exist or thick vegetation has grown over berms. Brush will be removed from outside road berms and used to infill inside edge of road, including root balls to increase potential for re-sprouting. All trees along road edges will be left in place. Existing soil stockpiles along fire roads will be used to fill ruts and entrenchments; additionally locally-sourced clean soil may be imported to complete entrenchment fill. In areas where a wide berm exists, road edges will be re-vegetated after outsloping with a native species seed mix selected by the District Environmental Scientists.
