Document Description
Project includes a pilot study designed to test the feasibility of using weak-base (WBA) anionic resins in the anion exchange treatment of groundwater to remove hexavalent chromium. Specifically, pumping equipment in a District water supply well (Well #15) will be modified to produce a flow rate of less than 5 gpm to accommodate a pilot testing system composed of skid-mounted filtration and 3-column anion exchange unit. Water will be pumped and treated using three commercially available resins. Regular sampling of the raw and treated water for laboratory analysis will occur, along with periodic data gathering of field measurements, for an initial trial period of approximately 3 months. The study may be extended if test results indicate further data gathering is warranted. This pilot treatment testing is part of a larger project to manage the loss of production capacity resulting from the recently established water quality threshold for hexavalent chromium drinking water. Upon completion of the pilot study, mechanical and chemical treatment/development of the well will be conducted prior to re-installation of full capacity (1,200 gpm) pumping equipment.
