The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) proposes to realign the curves, widen shoulders, and improve the clear recovery area on State Route 191 in Butte County from postmile 6.8 to 8.6. The purpose of this project is to reduce the number and severity of collisions on this segment by providing improvements that address the observed collision patterns. This 1.8-mile segment of roadway has experienced a total of 54 collisions during a three year period, including 23 accidents involving injuries. The observed total accident rate is over 3 times higher than the statewide average for a similar type of facility.
