The Inyo County Public Works Department has prepared an IS and DMND for the Whitney Portal Road Improvement project. The project involves resurfacing, rehabilitation, and restoration work for an 11.2 mile stretch of Whitney Portal Road located between the Tuttle Creek Road intersection just west of the community of Lone Pine and Whitney Portal at 8,300 feet above sea level in the Sierra Nevada. The project will: add Class III bicycle lanes between Tuttle Creek Road and Horseshoe Meadows Road, rehabilitate or remove existing pull-outs, replace old or damaged culverts, and upgrade regulatory and warning signs.
