Document Description
The San Diego Unified Port District proposes to develop a renewable-based microgrid at its Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal that can be replicated at other seaport terminals and industrial facilities. The project will incorporate a 700-kilowatt (kW) solar array. 700-kW/2,500-kilowatt hour lithium ion battery storage system, and a centralized microgrid control system to allow key elements of the terminal to remain operational when islanded from the grid. High mast terminal lighting will be converted to light emitting diode fixtures to improve energy efficiency. The microgrid storage and controls will provide islanding and demand response benefits, allowing the District to reduce loads.
