Document Description
DTSC has approved a Resource Conservation Recovery Act Corrective Action Statement of Basis for the USS-POSCO Industries site (UPI) in Pittsburg, California, pursuant to Health and Safety Code, Division 20, Chapter 6.5. The purpose of the corrective action is to remediate soil, soil gas, and groundwater contamination associated with Solid Waste Management Unit 4 at UPI. The remedial alternative includes targeted removal of soil, extraction of soil vapor and groundwater within the area where the original release took place, in-situ treatment of groundwater in the most contaminated segments of the plume, and installation of a reactive barrier along the property boundary to prevent the migration of contaminants in concentrations above aquatic habitat protection levels. The alternative also includes implementation of a long-term groundwater monitoring system, and preparation and recordation of a Land Use Covenant restricting land use to Industrial and prohibiting the beneficial use of groundwater within the surface area of the land being remediated.
