The City of Downey proposes to implement two new water wells as a method of improving water supply reliability within its service area. The two wells (Well Nos. 27 and 28) would include the following primary components: a well drilled to approximately 1,500 feet below ground surface; a 660 sf building consisting of a well room, chemical area, and electric room; a 400-horsepower electric pump; emergency generator backup equipment; flow meters, and pipelines. Both wells would have aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) capabilities. Additionally, the Well No. 28 site would include a building for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) equipment.
