The Project entails the demolition of the existing Pier Bridge and replacement of the Bridge which extends west from the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Colorado Avenue to the Santa Monica Pier. The existing bridge was built in 1939 and is near
the end of its useful life with a sufficiency rating of 17 out of 100. The project would replace the existing bridge with a new structure designed and constructed to current standards. Eight build alternatives are collectively under consideration - the basic
design parameters are essentially the same with the differences primarily related to the north-south placement of the various paths for access by vehicles, bicycles, pedestrian's, and those with limited mobility.
