Document Description
The Department of Toxic Substances Control has issued an Emergency Permit to NAS North Island marine flares. The items were discovered and recovered from Pacific Beach, La Jolla Beach and Imperial Beach. They are currently being stored at NAS North Island in an Explosive Ordinance and Disposal (EOD) safe holding area. The items along with items that may be discovered will be transported to the Naval Air Facility (NAF) Bombing Range in El Centro, California where they will be treated by open detonation. Both transport and open detonation will be done following millitary protocols. Nas North Island EOD personnel have determined that the items are unstable and considered unsafe for continued storage.
