Document Description
Proposed project involves funding for five security-related projects for the FY14 Port Security Grant Program. On July 25, 2014 the Dept. of Homeland Security/Federal Emergency Management Agency awarded the District and Harbor Police $2,014,563 in funding for various District and Harbor Police projects through its Port Security Grant Program. All port Security Grant Program projects, including the San Diego Regional Fiber Optic Infrastructure Phase 9, Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Enhancement, North Bay Wide Area View Cameras, Fast Response Patrol Vessel Maintenance, and Maritime Firefighting Equipment were selected to increase maritime domain awareness around the San Diego Bay. The San Diego Regional Fiber Optic Infrastructure Phase 9 project will plan and construct a continuation of existing fiber optic infrastructure in the Shelter Island area around the San Diego Bay. Work to be completed for the fiber optic infrastructure will include trenching to a depth of approximately two inches and installing conduit and fiber optic cable within the trench. The GIS Enhancement project will provide District-wide up-to-date aerial imagery providing a more accurate view of the maritime domain area. In addition to being used by the District, The GIS images will be shared with other regional public safety agencies. The North Bay Wide Area View Cameras project will install a wide area camera on an existing radio tower. Work to be completed will include installation of a wide-area camera that is 1 foot long by 9 inches tall on an existing radio tower in Shelter Island. Cameras will provide panoramic aerial views of northern San Diego Bay. Camera feed will provide a broad view, as well as the ability to zoom in to specific areas, which will allow for overall greater viewing ability. Moreover, the Fast Response Patrol Vessel Maintenance project will allow funding for annual maintenance on the existing fleet of grant-funded vessels that patrol the San Diego Bay by Harbor Police. Finally, the proposed project will allow funding for the purchase Maritime Firefighting Equipment Project, including off-shelf air canisters.
