Document Description
DTSC has issued an emergency permit to the Bio-Rad Laboratories - Hercules to treat hazardous waste by chemical stabilization. These items are expired and currently being stored in the building at 200 Alfred Nobel Drive, Hercules, CA 94547 (see Section 7.0 of the Permit Application). It has been determined that these materials may be highly reactive (TNP, TNBS, HOBt being shocked sensitive and BPO, AIBN being temperature/shock sensitive) and should be chemically stabilized as a safety precaution prior to being transported offsite by Clean Harbors Environmental Services (CHES). The treatments involve the addition of: DI Water for TNBS, HOBt and AIBN; DI Water and Alcohol to TNP; and Inert Solid/DI Water to BPO to dilute/destruct the chemicals in container(s). CHES personnel are scheduled to arrive at the facility sometime between Sept. 2 and Sep. 30, 2014 to conduct the treatment operation.
