Document Description
Project is limited to the transport and placement of approximately 170 70-lb. clean black gravel filled Caltrans bags abutting the downstream edge of a concrete sewer line encasement. The purpose of the gravel bags is to minimize or preclude further undercutting of the concrete encasement by the creek which would otherwise result in a rupture of the sewer line and subsequent release of sewage into Tallac Creek and Lake Tahoe. The bags are 8 ounce fabric weight, 24 inch by 16 inch nonwoven black gravel bags. They are rated at 900 gpm/ft flow rate with a 500 pound burst strength. The bags will be transported from a staging area to the site using an ATV and attached ATV trailer. It is anticipated that between 8 to 11 trips will be required to deliver the necessary number of gravel bags to the project site. All bags will be placed by hand crews to minimize the risk of ground and habitat disturbance at the site and along the creek. Prior to transport and placement, the Permittee will ensure that all gravel and bags are free of loose soils and sediment that could otherwise wash into the creek. This is a temporary repair project. It is anticipated that a final solution to protect the sewer line will be implemented and be incorporated into the US Forest Service restoration plan within 3 years of this project at which time the gravel bags will be removed from the creek.
