Document Description
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has executed Streambed Alteration Agreement (EPIMS-LAN-18878-R5), pursuant to Fish and Game Code section 1602, to the Project Applicant, Los Angeles County Department of Public Works. The Project is limited to operation of a pneumatic dam for a stormwater reclamation facility to increase water quality and water reuse benefits in the San Gabriel River watershed. An underground storage system lies beneath Adventure Park in Whittier, California. This underground storage system has a capacity of 19.5 acre-feet (af). Stormwater will be captured via overland flow (sheet flow) from the nearby vicinity as well as via the Sorensen Drain, which is located west of Adventure Park. To facilitate the diversion of water from the Sorensen Drain, a 3- feet tall by 34-feet across rubber pneumatic dam will be operated within the Sorensen Drain. When the dam is inflated, it will direct flow into a drop inlet just upstream of the dam. The drop inlet is 5-feet wide by 34-feet across. Both the dam and the drop inlet span the entire width of the Sorensen Drain. The pneumatic dam is flush with the channel when deflated.
