- Document Description
- DTSC has issued an emergency permit to Michrom BioResources, Inc. to treat hazardous waste by chemical stabilization. It has been determined that these items are or may be highly reactive and must be stabilized prior to being transported offsite. The chemicals are expired and are currently being stored inside a storage area at the Michrom BioResources facility. The treatment of these items will be carried out by Clean Harbor Environmental Services (CHES) and involves the addition of a solvent to the containers to reduce the reactive characteristics of the chemicals. As Michrom BioResources does not have a permit for treatment of hazardous waste, DTSC has determined that an emergency permit should be issued. The expired chemicals are a potential safety hazard and present an unacceptable risk for continued storage. There is no alternative treatment available. The emergency permit is a temporary measure, which allows Michrom BioResources to have CHES personnel treat the expired chemicals so they can be safely transported offsite for proper disposal.
