The section 2081(a) permit authorizes SWFSC to take white shark during the course of its survey subject to terms and conditions set forth in the permit. The purpose of the surveys is to collect fisheries independent data on a variety of species including blue, mako and thresher shark, swordfish; albacore; and coastal pelagic species (Pacific mackerel, jack mackerel, Pacific sardine, northern anchovy). The SWFSC will use monofilament. THe long line and troll gears will be deployed in deeper waters, and the midwater trawl and hook-and-line gears will be deployed at the surface.
