- Document Description
- The purpose of the proposed project is to improve the water quality of Leona Creek downstream of the closed Leona Heights Sulfur Mine in the Oakland hills by remediating the waste mine tailings and stabilizing the Leona Creek channel. Currently, the water quality in Leona Creek, at the remediation site, is degraded due to acid mine drainage which is being caused by contact between the onsite runoff and piles of mining waste rock. The proposed project would consolidate and cap the mine tailings, and create drainage improvements, in order to minimize contact between storm water runoff and tailings, thereby reducing the acid mine drainage into Leona Creek.
