- The Sierra Institute for Community and Environment requests $350,000 in funding from the Sierra Nevada Conservancy's Proposition 84 Safe Drinking Water, Water Quality and Supply, Flood Control, River and Coastal Protection Grant Program for construction and operation of a wood proecessing facility to convert forest biomass (woody renewables consisting of small diameter wood matter from forest thinning projects in Plumas County) into conditioned wood chips to fuel boilers within the County. Conditioned wood chips are no larger than two inches and have no more than 35 percent moisture content. The project will provide facilities that will use material from forest fuel thinning projects and the will, in turn, protect forest health and wildlife habitat by encouraging sustainable thinning projects that will reduce wildfire risk.
