Document Description
The Department of Toxic Susstances Control has issued an Emergency Permit to MCAS Miramar to treat hazardous waste by open detonation. The item to be treated is one (1) 60 mm heavy explosive mortar. The item was recovered on March 8, 2014 by MCAS Miramar Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) personnel at 900 Fiesta Island Dr. in San Deigo. MCAS Miramar EOD personnel have determined that the item is considered unsafe for further shipment and continued storage. The Emergency Permit is effective from March 13, 2014 through March 20, 2014. Treatment is tentatively scheduled to occur on March 13th. The treatment activities will be conducted by qualified EOD personnel from MCAS Miramar. The detonation will be performed on the MCAS Miramar Explosive Ordinance Disposal Range.

The range is a secure fenced-off facility located and designed for this use. * Only Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) trained specialists will be handling the material.
