Document Description
The Northstar Drive Roundabout currently is located on Northstar Drive between State Route 267 and the Northstar Village. The Roundabout accommodates village traffic during winter ski season, as well as residential and commercial traffic accessing Big Springs Drive and Highlands View Road. Currently the Northstar Roundabout is unable to accommodate winter peak hour traffic due to high volumes. In addition, the roundabout cannot accommodate certain turning movements from the north leg entrance, and has points of conflict and path overlap, thus making proper movements within it problematic. The east leg approach has no deflection to slow entering traffic and direct it into the appropriate portion of the circulating lane. The Roundabout is therefore deficient in capacity and handling proper circulation. This will be accomplished by adding a second eastbound entry lane, eliminating a westbound entrance lane (2 to 1 lane) and adding a west to north bypass lane. The project will benefit winter peak ski traffic as well as residential and business traffic generated by area roadways, and is a project that has been requested to be completed by Northstar California, owned by Vail Resorts.
