Document Description
The California DTSC has issued an emergency permit to University of the Pacific (UOP) to treat hazardous waste by chemical stabilization. It has been determined that the items are or may be highly reactive and must be stabilized prior to being transported offsite. The items are expired and current being stored inside a laboratory located on campus at UOP. The treatment of these items will be carried out by Clean Harbor Environmental Services and involves the addition of a solvent to the container to reduce the reactive characteristic of the chemicals. The treatment is scheduled to occur sometime between February 28th, and March 9th, 2014 in an exclusion zone set up near the location where the materials are stored. As UOP does not have a permit for treatment of hazardous waste, DTSC has determined that an emergency permit should be issued.
