Document Description
The purpose of the 2013/2014 restoration program is to stabilize, restore or maintain the ecological integrity and function of the native plant communities and surrounding soil in specific areas of the Gaudalupe - Nipomo Dunes Complex within Oceano Dunes SVRA park boundaries. Protection of the vegetated islands within ODSRVA, are mandated to remain in compliance with the Coastal Permit, OHMVRD Directives and State Legislation. Projects proposed for the 2013/2014 restoration season are within the fore dunes, mid-dunes and back dunes. Most of the sites targeted for restoration are within or near the open riding and camping area of Oceano Dunes SVRA. All of the existing vegetated area are closed to OHB recreation by fencing. Restoration techniques will include pre-project surveys, dune stabilization with straw, native plant propagation and native seed dispersal. Pre-project surveys will be carried out for listed species and project boundaries will be marked wtih GPS polygons. Dune stabilization will be completed with certified "weed free" straw spread at 100-150 bales/acres by a straw blower or punched into the sand surface with "sheepsfoot" pulled by heavy equipment. All native seed and vegetation plant material to be used for this project were collected from on-site locations within ODSRVA.
