Document Description
The cleanup project that was subject to approval by DTSC is part of a larger redevelopment project, the Augustine Bowers Office Park that was previously approved by the lead agency, the City of Santa Clara. The cleanup project consists of approval of a Response Plan by the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) to protect human health and the environment by remediating the soil contminated with arsenic, lead, 4,4'-dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene (DDE), and dieldrin on the Santa Clara Technology Campus 1 (Site) prior to its redevelopment. Cleanup activities would include excavation of an estimated 23,500 cubic yards of soil from the area where contaminants are present in soil at concentrations above the Site cleanup goals to depth up to 2.5 feet below the base rock that underlies existing pavement, consolidation of the excavated contaminated soil on-Site, beneath a "cap" (i.e., parking structures, buildings, paved parking lots, or landscaped areas). If contaminated soil cannot be readily accommodated in the on-Site consolidation cell areas, excess soil may be transported and disposed of at a permitted, off-Site facility.
