Document Description
The Del Rio Woods Recreation & Park District is proposing removal of a summer dam spillway that currently obstructs the Russian River, intrudes on views of the river and surrounding hills, and is a potential hazard from unauthorized use. The spillway sits in the Russian River just off the District beach adjacent to 2656 South Fitch Mountain Road in Healdsburg. The dam spillway will be removed by using a dozer/front end loader for installing construction access and removing spillway materials, a vibratory hammer to break up the concrete and loosen steel sheeting, and a crane or excavator to remove large sheet metal pieces. The top concrete panel will be cut open with a concrete saw, and inner materials (likely gravel or compacted soil) will be placed in upland or beach areas, as appropriate, where turbid water will not flow back into the river. All spillway pieces will be trucked to a nearby landfill, recycled, or reused in other projects.
