Document Description
Project involves the removal of sediments contaminated with radionuclides and other contaminants from the intake and discharge canals of the former Humboldt Bay Nuclear Power Plant to enable termination of the facility's Nuclear Regulatory Commission license. The Project also includes the demolition of intake and discharge control structures and the permanent disconnection of the discharge canal from Humboldt Bay. Mitigation of project impacts will be completed onsite utilizing the intake canal and an adjacent parking lot. The Project will result in 1.94 acres of coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch) and longfin smelt (Spirinchus thaleichthys) habitat including temporary impacts to 1.15 acres; the project will permanently remove 0.79 acres of coho salmon and longfin smelt habitat. The project is expected to result in incidental take of coho salmon and longfin smelt, which is/are designated as a threatened under the CA Endangered Species Act. The ITP referenced above as issued by the CDFW authorizes incidental take of species listed under CESA that may occur as a result of Project implementation.
