Document Description
The Riverside County Transportation Department is considering three alternative alignments for a new two-lane roadway connecting the City of Banning and the community of Cabazon, extending from the intersection of Hathaway/Westward in Banning to Bonita/Apache Trail in Cabazon, as described in the FTIP. There is currently no local roadway connecting these adjacent communities; vehicles and bicyclists must use the I-10 Freeway (no pedestrian connection). The lack of local roadway contributes to massive congestion on I-10 (more than 10 hours in recent years) when I-10 is closed between Banning and Cabazon during emergencies. The proposed project would provide some relief for such congestion, as well as providing for local circulation for vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians.
