Document Description
Department of Toxic Substances Control has issued an emergency permit to Vertex Pharmaceuticals to treat hazardous waste by chemical stabilization. The waste to be treated consists of 25 grams of expired Diazald in a container. Diazald is temperature sensitive and can be highly reactive and must be stabilized prior to being transported offsite. The Diazald is currently being stored inside a hazardous waste storage area located at the Vertex facility located at 11010 Torreyana Road in San Diego. The treatment of the Diazald will be carrried out by Clean Harbor Environmental Services and involves the addition of a solvent to the container so to reduce the reactive characteristic. The treatment is anticipated to occur sometime around 7:00 am on October 24th, 2013 in an exclusion zone at the Vertex facility.
