Document Description
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) proposes to replace a failed drainage pipe west of Interstate 280 at post mile 9.4. The 60-inch corrugated metal pipe, which has failed along a portion of its length, has created a sinkhole sufficiently large enough to begin impacting an existing maintenance access road and supporting fill slope of Interstate 280. The sinkhole continues to pipe debris and material during rain events into Lower Crystal Springs Reservoir, a San Francisco Public Utility Commission drinking water source. The failed pipe was spot-repaired and the sinkhole backfilled in an emergency maintenance activity in October and November of 2013.
