Water-Use and Irrigation Efficiency Project

The District's Elk Reserve Turnouts comprise three turnout connections along the eastern side of the East Side Canal to provide water to the Reserve. These turnouts will allow the District to much more effectively and efficiently deliver water into the Reserve for wetlands and groundwater recharge benefits Operation of the Semitropic Pipeline Turnout includes discharging water from the Semitropic Pipeline to the West Side Canal for conveyance to the Kern National Wildlife Refuge (KNWR), which is located approximately eight miles north of the proposed Semitropic Pipeline Turnout and for delivery to District landowners. The Semitropic Pipeline Turnout would be operated as needed and when water is available during BVWSD's Irrigation season. The source of water for operation of the Semitropic Pipeline Turnout is expected to be either State Water Project water from the California Aqueduct or water from Semitropic via exchanges or water sales. A telemetry system will be used to monitor flows.
