Maintenance dredging is proposed to remove the sands and sediment that have accumulated from the hydroelectric projects discharges upstream of the project. The proposed project is located on private lands in Kern County, approximately 15 miles northeast of the Bakersfield downtown area. Project lands on the south side of the Kern River are located within the Bakersfield city limits, whereas lands on the north side of river are in Kern County. The purpose of the proposed maintenance dredging is to remove accumulated sediment from the project reservoir to restore operational capacity and reduce operation and maintenance costs. Approximately 35,000-40,000 yd3 of sediment would be removed. The maintenance dredging will have to be done in low flow conditions, October through January in a normal year.
