Document Description
Caltrans proposes to stabilize the roadway embankment on State Route 1 at Grand Canyon Creek, and prevent further erosion during high flow events. A continuous 24-inch diameter cast-in-drilled-hole (CIDH) pile wall will be buried under the southbound lane pavement and shoulder. The CIDH wall will be backfilled with concrete and H-beams. It will be approximately 300 feet long and the piles will be installed approximately 35 deep. A barrier slab will be laid above the new embedded wall, providing anchoring for a steel railing adjacent to the southbound lane. The southbound lane of State Route 1 will be temporarily closed and excavated to install the CIDH wall, barrier slab, and railing.
