Document Description
The existing County Road 86A Bridge (22C0101) was built in 1915 as a two-span reinforced concrete T-beam structure on solid wall pier and end diaphragm abutments. The bridge is approximately 50.5 feet long and 21.5 feet wide. The purpose of the Replacement Project is to replace the functionally obsolete bridge with an approximately 50-foot to 70-foot long, 35-foot wide single span cast-in-place post tensioned concrete slab structure at the same horizontal alignment. The new bridge is being designed to pass a 50-year design storm water surface elevation with two feet of freeboard and to be capable of conveying the 100-year flood. This feature requires the existing road profile to be raised approximately 3.5 feet. The new bridge will meet the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials guidelines for design, construction, and maintenance. Caltrans Standard Type 732 concrete barrier with metal beam guardrails will be used at the four corners of the bridge and the bridge approaches will be re-paved. An AT&T fiber optic line running along the east side of the bridge deck will require relocation before the existing bridge can be demolished.
